Tatiana Kondratiuk: "Biodiversity Day - an occasion to think about self-preservation"

On May 22 the world community commemorates the International Day for Biological Diversity. UN General Assembly proclaimed this fest in December 2000. It was preceded by the Convention on Biological Diversity, adopted by the respective conferences in 1992.

Occupying only 6% of the area of Europe, Ukraine has about 35% of its biodiversity. For this indicator we are ahead of almost all European countries. Thus it is a powerful reserve of endangered species of flora and fauna of Europe. This was stated by the Chair of the Green Party of Ukraine - Tatiana Kondratiuk.

"Each of the biological species is an integral part of the ecosystem and the disappearance of at least one of them leads to irreversible processes in nature", - she added.

She said that over 7000 species and nearly 60 000 plant species are endangered in the world today.

"We see the relationship of man using nature, especially Ukraine. With every year in order of economic growth Ukraine is exploatating the ecosystem. Excessive consumption of natural resources leads to loss of forests, grasslands, which are the habitat of many species, including those listed in the Red Book. That wildlife is the basis of life on Earth and the foundation of harmonious existence"- the Green Party leader added.

She noted that the Green Party of Ukraine has always defended and will defend the principles of harmonious coexistence of man and nature.

"Saving the environment, humane treatment of animals, management of natural resources - a sign of a civilized society. We urge all to think again on the day of biodiversity.

Harmony with nature - a harmony with each other. We are the part of nature, so we have to save it!"- called Tatiana Kondratiuk.
