31 May – The World Anti-Tobacco Day

The day without tobacco is celebrated all around the world on the last day of spring. This year the day is devoted to fighting the tobacco epidemic among women.

According to the World Health Organization, to date, there are over 1 billion smokers in the world. Among them nearly 200 million are women. And the tendency goes to increasing the number of smokers is observed among girls. Yes, in the half of the 150 countries, the number of smokers are approximately the same among women and men. In some countries girls smoke even more than boys. This trend is observed particularly in Bohemia, Bulgaria, Chile, New Zealand. 

“Ukraine - the first among the number of cigarettes smoked per person. This suggests that in our country this problem has reached epidemic size" - said the leader of the Green Party of Ukraine Tatiana Kondratiuk.

She said that a special danger is that more children are attached to smoking. According to unofficial information today about 17% of smokers are students. Another sad figure - each year 120 thousand people die in Ukraine because of smoking.

"So today we have to think what is more important for us: health or dubious pleasure. And if any of people who smoke, really want to quit, why not to do it today? "- Said the head of party Tatiana Kondratiuk.

"The Green Party of Ukraine has always defended and defends the principles of healthy living. We understand what is the real priority. We have to be the healthy nation", - she added.
